One Health
Even before the name, UGA has been making headlines.

In January 1973, the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at UGA celebrated the opening of a new state-of-the-art wing, dedicated to advancing the study of comparative medicine.
Known as the Institute of Comparative Medicine (ICM), this cutting-edge facility housed the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology and was built with a $1.6 million investment, including funding from the state and a prestigious grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Designed to foster groundbreaking interdisciplinary research, the ICM helped propel the CVM to the forefront of One Health initiatives, positioning it as a leader in understanding the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.
The UGA CVM One Health approach has evolved into Precision One Health, focusing on the complex links between genetics, environment, and lifestyle in disease prevention and treatment. Our diverse, interdisciplinary team spans multiple colleges and fields, bringing together expertise from veterinary medicine, public health, pharmacy, engineering, and more.
